This week, we are featuring Danika Williams, owner of Milk N Honey Cakery. Milk N Honey Cakery is a licensed home bakery, specializing in custom cakes but also offers specialty doughnuts, macarons, cakesicles, custom sugar cookies and more. What inspired you to start a home business?
I’ve always enjoyed baking. Decorating cakes and cookies has been something that has slowly grown on me, because when I first started I felt my results were substandard. I kept practicing with my own kid’s birthday cakes and treats and felt like I was getting better each time. When I decided to make a cake for the local firework’s auction, I received lots of positive feedback so that’s what really inspired me to pursue a home bakery. Also, a huge benefit of starting my business at home, meant that I was able to to get it going before all of my kids were school age.
What do you love most about baking?
While I was growing up, my aunt always baked for other people. She still does. At Christmas time every year she gets busy and makes big cookie platters for all of her friends. As a child I always got to help, and baking has been something special I shared with her. My favorite part of baking, however, is giving it to the person who gets to enjoy it.
What has been a customer favorite so far?
Most people come to me to make a very special custom cake for a birthday. I would say cakes are my most common order. However, many people have really enjoyed the Decorate Your Own Cookie Kits as well, and as the holidays approach I feel like they are only going to get more popular. (This writer is partial to the macaroons and looking forward to an order of donuts!)
Tell us about a recent project that you enjoyed.
I’ve been decorating some Christmas sugar cookies for a photoshoot by a local photographer, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that they are my favorite! The colors are perfect and I love all things Christmas!
What specialities are available for the upcoming holidays?
I’m still brainstorming ideas, but I will definitely be offering Thanksgiving themed cookie kits the week of Thanksgiving and “Cookies for Santa” cookie kits in December!
What else would you like us to know about your business?
Tekoa has been great to me, and I am so thankful for the love and support I’ve been shown as I’ve worked hard to start up this home bakery. I do want to let the community and surrounding communities know, that I have started offering a weekly featured item on my web store (link below) and each week’s item will be available to pre-order up to the week prior to delivery. I am a delivery only bakery, so all local deliveries in Tekoa are free!
