All is Merry & Bright at Homestead General Store

The Tekoa Chamber of Commerce is proud of its businesses. Farms, industrial, brick and mortar, home-based, service-oriented, food … we’ve got it all. To celebrate our hard working businesses, we will be featuring some of them each month.

We recently visited with Homestead General Store, located on Crosby Street, just down the block from the Pharmacy. Homestead is a newer Tekoa business and has quickly become a favorite for locals and anyone passing through. You will find treasures for you home, the lake house, or the perfect gifts to delight friends and family members.

Tell us how how your store came about.

Homestead General Store is unique in that we are two couples (Chet & Susie Creger and Jim & DeeDee Lee) who have combined forces and merged our love of antiques, decor, and shopping into one store.  Jim and Susie are siblings, just 11 months apart. Susie and her husband Chet trade off working every other week with Jim and DeeDee.

The couples have a long history of small business ownership. At one time there were four antique malls in the family! Both couples have also owned gift stores. The ladies will readily admit they love to shop!  We had been retailing at local area antique and gift shows, when we had the opportunity to have a permanent location in Tekoa. We opened Homestead General Store in May of 2019.

Describe what Homestead General Store has to offer.

Homestead is a retail gift and home decor store with a fun mixture of antiques. Our goal is to provide a neighborhood escape for the town to enjoy. Whether one finds the perfect gift, decor item, or a great decorating idea, we want to spread happiness at Homestead.

What do you like best about having a business in Tekoa?

We love getting to know the people of Tekoa. Tekoa is a delightful town and the people are the heart of it. In this season of giving, it becomes so apparent that to the people who live here, giving comes naturally. This can be witnessed by the people and businesses who quietly volunteer behind the scenes, never expecting anything in return. They make Tekoa a wonderful place to live. We hope that Homestead adds happiness to this special community.

What can we find in the store for the upcoming holidays?

For the holidays, we have festive decor to adorn your home and make your holiday merry and bright! One can find fun and unique gifts for family, friends, and neighbors and maybe even a little something for yourself! Choose from kitchen towels, table runners, soap, pillows, candles, and signs. Create a gift basket of gourmet foods, or find an antique to remind you of Christmases past. Snowmen galore!

Homestead General Store will be the center of fun all season long! We hope that you can stop in for Small Business Saturday, November 28. The store will be open 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM that day. (Face masks are required and the latest COVID mandates are being followed.) Follow us on FB for all the latest. Our website is homesteadintekoa.com
